Use Permit Fees
The Trustees have hereby established the following fees for obtaining a use permit. These fees were reviewed and approved by the Circleville Township Trustees at the June 20, 2022 meeting:
Residential
- $25 + $0.07 per sq. ft.
- $30 + $0.03 per sq. ft. parking and drive
- Pool: $25
*same fee schedule to be used for patios
*Minimum Fee: $30.00 for residential
Commercial/Industrial and all NON Residential Structures:
- $75 + $0.15 per sq. ft. building
- $35 + $0.03 per sq. ft. parking and driveway inclusive of resurfacing
- $30 + $0.05 per sq. ft. canopy
Other permits and applications
- Sign: (permanent sign) $50 + $0.50 per sq. ft.
- Temporary Trailers: $75 + $0.10 per sq. ft. of trailer. Permit for 6 months and may be renewed three (3) times total
- Fence: $30 + $0.15 per linear ft.
- Lot Split: $450
- Amendment to Zoning Map (rezoning): $450 Preliminary Rezoning application goes before the Pickaway County Planning & Zoning first
- Variance, Conditional Use, and Development Review for Highway Business: $450
- Ponds: $150
- Change in Use: $50 PER UNIT (IF IT DOES NOT INVOLVE A ZONING CHANGE)
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Board of Township Trustees of Circleville Township, Pickaway County, Ohio, that this Board declares to certify the above amendment to the township zoning commission for public hearing on the same.

Do I need a zoning certificate?
Most work that changes a structure or how a property is used requires township approval before the work begins. If you are unsure whether your project needs a certificate, call the zoning inspector first — it costs nothing to ask, and it is far easier than correcting work after the fact.
Typically requires a zoning certificate
- New homes and other new construction
- Additions to an existing building
- Accessory buildings — garages, barns, sheds, pole buildings
- Decks, porches, pools and fences
- Signs (use the sign permit application)
- Changing the use of a property or building
How to apply
- Download the Application for Zoning Certificate (PDF, opens in a new tab), or the application that matches your project.
- Include a site plan showing lot lines, existing structures, and the location and dimensions of the proposed work.
- Check the permit fee list for the amount due.
- Submit the application and fee to the zoning inspector.
Zoning certificate or building permit?
They are two different approvals, issued by two different offices. Circleville Township issues zoning certificates — these confirm your project is allowed on your lot and meets setback, height and use requirements. Pickaway County issues building permits and performs construction inspections for structural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work. Many projects need both.
